A historic New York City townhome

Brooklyn, NY

The owners of this 120-year-old Brooklyn townhome, gut renovated by Ben Bischoff and his team at MADE Design / Build, wanted to honor what they called “the feminine grandeur” of the home while also ensuring it’s comfortable, artistically beautiful, and embraces their unique family quirks — for one, they wanted your first thought upon entering to be, “damn, this is going to be a great party!” (That’s a direct quote!) From the custom millwork inspired by Parisian bistros to the playful pink and white Moroccan zellige tile floor in the entry, this home is a true blend of old and new, with eclectic treasures from the family’s travels around the world. We incorporated many of the family’s existing pieces in the interest of maximizing the budget, while strategically investing in new purchases. And if you’re panicked at the sight of a white boucle sofa next to a working fireplace in a home with a 5-year old, don’t be: it’s a very stain-resistant performance fabric and spills come right out!

This project was featured in the British publication, Homes & Gardens (our first international press!).
