YOUR HOME AS A CELEBRATION OF YOU

Thoughtfully incorporating

kids, pets, toys, existing pieces, organization, mess, style, reality, budget, function, and fun, MKW Interior Design creates spaces that celebrate the humans who make a house a home.

MKW personalizes homes to celebrate your family’s unique personalities and the priorities of your daily life.

These values are how MKW aims to work and live

Empathy.

In the words of IDEO, MKW develops a “deep understanding of the problems and realities of the people we are designing for.”

Excellence Not Perfection.

MKW has an incredibly high standard of excellence, and also realizes perfection is a trap that limits creativity, improvement, and growth.

Collaboration.

You are MKW’s key partner in improving your space, and you know yourself and your household best. Your expertise combined with MKW’s makes great things happen.

Kindness and Integrity.

All humans deserve kindness, honesty, transparency, and respect, including skilled tradespeople, clients, other designers, and everyone else.

Growth.

MKW is a voracious learner who grows and evolves daily. She won’t always get it right, and when she misses the mark, she owns mistakes and works to make them right.

"Be curious. Not judgmental."
- Walt Whitman (& Ted Lasso)

MKW makes interior design empowering, collaborative, and fun.

With a zest for interior design adventures and a can-do attitude, Mary Kathryn bends rules and breaks norms to ensure each space celebrates the personalities of those who inhabit it.

Charging boldly towards color, pattern, texture, and whimsy, Mary Kathryn creates personalized spaces that feel exuberant and functional, celebratory and practical — a place where each member of a family can comfortably live, grow, and feel seen. Now rooted in Nashville after ten years in New York City and time lived on Maui, and she works with clients both locally and around the country alongside her Design & Project Manager, Amy Beemer Lev, who is based in the Bay Area of California.

Mary Kathryn’s organized project management, keen eye toward how each family actually lives, and unique ability to blend unexpected styles all breed interior design for real life.

With more than 15 years’ experience in public education, during which she worked to improve K-12 schooling by leveraging IDEO’s human-centered design, Mary Kathryn gained a reputation for being neurotically organized, highly efficient, and a meticulous and agile project manager. Such skills serve her equally well as a designer, bringing not only a playful and stylish eye to her clients’ homes, but also the project management and problem-solving chops necessary to pull together the whole enchilada.

“MKW listened to what we liked and didn’t like about our house and worked with that instead of just offering suggestions of how our home would look better."

- Catherine (Nashville, TN)
